If your machine is parked for more than 7 months, it's considered long-term storage. Extended downtime can cause oil degradation, battery drain, and corrosion. Here are a few key points to keep in mind.
1. Clean the machine thoroughly
Use a pressure washer to remove salt, dust, and grease from the exterior. After washing, blow dry electrical components and gaps with compressed air.
2. Treat corroded areas
Use sandpaper to remove any rust spots, then touch up with anti-corrosion paint. Small rust spots can become big problems if left unchecked.
3. Protect piston rods
Coat the exposed parts of the boom luffing cylinder and slewing lock cylinder piston rods with grease and wrap them with plastic film to prevent rust.
4. Electrical system
Turn off the main power switch and disconnect the battery. If possible, recharge the battery periodically.
Inspect the anti-corrosion coating according to the climate zone where the machine is located (see our previous post).

Remove dust accumulated during storage and check for rust, deformation, or foreign objects.
2. Bleed cylinders
For the luffing cylinder and others, fully extend and retract 2-3 times to let seals readjust and release any trapped air.
3. Full test
Start the machine and run each function at low speed. Listen for unusual noises and check for leaks before putting it back to work.
What you do before storage — and during — determines whether your machine starts smoothly or gives you trouble when you need it most.
