In global bulk trade, many ports adjacent to mining areas lack sufficient water depth for large ocean-going vessels to berth directly. Offshore transhipment has therefore become a critical link between shallow-water terminals and deep-water shipping routes. A GENMA offshore transhipment system supplied to a major bauxite export project in Africa is a representative application in this field. The system was shipped from Shanghai, China, in late May 2026. After arrival, it completed load testing and entered commercial operation. As of writing, it has been running stably for two consecutive months, with positive feedback from the site.

The GENMA offshore transhipment system comprises two deck cranes, two large-capacity hoppers, a belt conveyor and a ship loader. In operation, small barges load ore at the shallow-water terminal and move to the offshore anchorage. The deck cranes grab the ore and discharge it into the hoppers, which feed the belt conveyor continuously. The conveyor transfers the material to the ship loader, which smoothly places it into the cargo holds of ocean-going vessels. The entire process eliminates the need for large vessels to berth, significantly improving mineral export efficiency.

Designed for harsh offshore conditions with high salt spray and heavy seas, the GENMA transhipment system is built to marine crane standards. The deck cranes offer stepless speed control and millimetre-level fine adjustment. Combined with box-type booms, they remain stable and reliable under heavy loads. The large-capacity hoppers buffer the grabbing cycle and ensure continuous operation of the belt conveyor. The ship loader is equipped with a telescopic discharge chute and luffing boom, allowing it to adapt to tidal variations and relative motion between vessels while achieving low-breakage loading. The entire system features a low centre of gravity, lightweight design and multi-layer anti-corrosion coating, ensuring long-term stable operation in complex sea conditions.

In terms of maintenance, the system is designed for serviceability: an integrated hydraulic power unit reduces piping and connections, key pivot points are self-lubricating, and a diagnostic interface comes as standard. On the service side, GENMA has established service points and spare parts warehouses in Tangier, Morocco, and Mombasa, Kenya, and has equipped Boffa, Guinea, with a spare parts warehouse and on-site service engineers to respond quickly to customer needs.

GENMA Solutions has long focused on material handling and lifting. Its product portfolio covers offshore transhipment systems, port handling equipment, cranes and other lifting solutions, serving mining, port, logistics and shipyard customers worldwide. GENMA continues to invest in intelligent and green technologies, using full variable-frequency electric drives, intelligent control and remote diagnostics to improve equipment efficiency and reliability. The stable operation of this project in Africa further demonstrates the competitiveness of GENMA’s complete offshore transhipment solution in bulk export applications.
